Under the U.S. Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA), 8 Securities is required to collect and retain certain tax status information about you. You are required to provide a filled and signed W-8BEN form as documentation to determine your tax status as a U.S. person or a non-U.S. person during account opening.

Generally, the form will remain valid for a period starting on the date the form is signed and ending on the last day of the third succeeding calendar year, unless a change in circumstances makes any information on the form incorrect. For example, a Form W-8BEN signed on September 30, 2014, remains valid through December 31, 2017. You can re-submit a new W-8BEN form via 8 Securities app when they are about to expire or you can download a physical form from our website anytime if there is any change of the information.

Be advised that failure to provide this information will force us to mark your account as recalcitrant, which may be subject to suspension and/or tax withholding on all withhold-able payments, as prescribed by pertinent law and regulation.
